Californians are known for their "outdoor living". We spend much of our leisure time outdoors; sometimes it is in one of the nearby state or county parks but mostly it is just "hanging out", perhaps with friends and a glass of wine or a cup of tea. As such Our Home has several "outdoor rooms" that have been created to allow us to enjoy the fresh air, the redwood trees and the wildlife that surround us. These "outdoor rooms" are connected by a series of gardens and walkways.

Outdoor Living - The Deck

As mentioned before, The Deck was not an original feature of Our Home. The Deck has actually been constructed in two sections, several years apart. The first half of The Deck was constructed as part of the kitchen renovation. The late morning and early afternoon sun and the late afternoon shade make this a perfect location for an outdoor brunch or for a barbecue dinner. The second half of The Deck was constructed in 1989 as an outdoor extension of the Living Room. Each part of The Deck is sufficiently large for a picnic table and chairs as well as chaise loungers and other outdoor furniture. Click here for photos and details.

Outdoor Living - The Hot Tub

Set within a "fairy circle" ring of old-growth redwood trees, The Hot Tub was originally a large redwood tub with a propane-fired heater. Now we sit in the evening amongst the same ancient trees in an updated tub with electric heat and automatic ozonation for purification. This allows the luxury of instant access while affording the convenience of low maintenance. Click here for photos and details.

Outdoor Living - The Gazebo

The Gazebo is part of the history of Our Home. We've been told it was built in the 1980's for a wedding. The two rose bushes that were planted at that time by the wedding party have since been moved to a more sunny location. A glorious place to sit and relax or to entertain friends, The Gazebo is raised several steps off the ground and gives the impression of being in the redwood tree canopy. Outdoor Living - The Patio

Under a large, overhanging oak tree, in a quiet garden corner, is The Patio. During the evening when the Acorn Woodpeckers are doing their aerial acrobatic show, The Patio is a soothing place to sit with a glass of wine as the sun sets. Click here for photos and details.
