The Gardens at Our Home

Set at the edge of a grove of about a dozen old-growth redwood trees, The Gardens at Our Home have been developed by many owners over several lifetimes. Each gardener-owner has developed and planted, reflecting their own personality. Whether it is the flowering quince, the native rhododendron, and the grand magnolia tree along Laguna Drive, the 10 foot high hedge of privet along Redwood Drive or the tiny native wildflowers that have volunteered as groundcover, each contribution to The Gardens is special. Today the gardens also boast over 80 camellia plants with their waxy, dark green leaves and flowers in the Spring or the Fall. Irrigation has been installed, automated to supply water as required by the conditions of soil and sunlight, to keep The Gardens green and growing.
The Gardens - The Front Door Gardens
Terraced gardens have graced the slope by the front door for many years. These gardens boast ferns that possessed mature, 4 foot fronds over 30 years ago. We also have a holly tree (with berries every winter), several California Bay Laurel trees, oak trees, a pyracantha tree and, of course, several redwoods, all of which supply ample shade for the lush, mature plantings. At the lowest terrace is The Patio. Click here for photos and details.
The Gardens - Arnold's Gardens
Arnold, our carved redwood bear, spends some of his time every year in our very special native forest garden. Surrounded by old-growth redwood trees, native flowers including trillium, epicactus orchids, violets, dicentera, tellemia and wood roses thrive. At the top of Arnold's Garden is The Gazebo with The Hot Tub just beyond. Click here for photos and details.
The Gardens - The Kitchen Gardens
Every good cook should have a kitchen garden for growing herbs. Our Kitchen Garden not only grows herbs but also flowers most of the year. Early in winter, the Winter Daphne scents the air all along the walkway between the kitchen and the garage. This is replaced by scented rhododendron, iris, roses, astilbe and, eventually in the fall, Sesanqua Camellias. A small artificial pond is hidden away among the plants, lending its soothing sounds. Just a few steps away from the Kitchen Garden is The Hot Tub. Click here for photos and details.
