Front Door
Garden |
The Front Door Garden starts as
flowers grace the front steps of Our Home. |
A stone walkway leads you past the
entry shrubs and into the garden. |
As you meander the garden path, you pass
crocosmia ... |
And hydrangea. |
You find a bench under the trees where you might
rest and watch the birds. |
A landing brings you rhododendron
... |
In shades of red, pink and
purple... |
And more garden paths. |
Finally, you descend to the bottom of the stairs
... |
And find the 7 foot camellia bushes at
The Patio. |
Hiding behind the camellia is the basement door
and ferns that were 5 feet tall over 30 years ago. |
Arnold's
Garden |
Beyond the Patio, below the Living
Room rhododendrons and wild onions flower in the Spring. |
The rhododendrons are named
"Taurus". |
Beside the rhododendrons, a brick
walkway leads from The Patio to Arnold's Garden. |
Along the way are passion flowers
... |
And a redwood stump that was cut over
a century ago. |
There is a ring of redwood trees known
as a "fairy circle" whose roots are truly ancient. |
At the end of the walkway, there is a
fern that will someday be a tree. |
Finally, you arrive at the path to the
native flower garden. |
Arnold's Garden has white trillium
... |
And red trillium surrounded by yellow
violets. |
The yellow violets are a delight in
the early Spring. |
They are accompanied by the redwood sorrel, a
native groundcover that is everywhere. |
In the summer, the hypericum, a non-native
delight us with huge yellow flowers. |
At the end of the path, set on a brick floor, is
a bench. |
One of our favorite places, this "resting spot"
is deep within our native plant garden. |
The view from the bench always nourishes the
soul. |
From the wildflower garden, the stairs
climb ... |
Past waves of dicentera flowers
... |
Up to The Gazebo, The Hot Tub and The
Deck. |
Kitchen
Garden |
The Kitchen Garden contains both flowers and
herbs. |
Growing among the mint, chives and
oregano are Japanese anemone. In the Spring, the hummingbirds harvest the
fluffy seed heads. |
Calla lilies grow on 5 foot
stems. |
Six foot tall camellia bushes flower
from Winter, well into the Summer. |
The primrose is one of the first flowers of
Spring. |
The flowering maple is a member of the
hibiscus family. |
A walkway passes through the Kitchen
Garden, along The Garage. |
The walkway passes by the small water garden
... |
And finally ends ... |
In the driveway ... |
Where you walk along the garden
edge |
And from there, to the front door of
Our Home. |
