Our homeis
located one mile from the Pacific Ocean, between Gualala and Point Arena, CA. Its
location along the coast affords the estate a position in what is
locally called the Banana Belt of the area. This is an area of about a handful of miles where the cold, ocean
fog stays mostly off shore and the land enjoys
sunshine. The elevation gives us sunshine and warmth but not
extreme heat as our home is above the fog, wind and glare of the ocean
yet below the heat of the ridge environment. Located above the highly desirable Island Cove Estates, yet separate from the Island Cove Estates Neighborhood
Association, for a small annual fee, our property does enjoy the same deeded
access, rights and privileges to the gated beach at Island Cove as the Neighborhood Association members. Our street
is a paved, improved Mendocino County road. This allows easy
access for deliveries and service vehicles. Our private driveway
off the County road eliminates shared driveways and neighborhood road
maintenance agreements and fees. The street continues from the
ocean (and CA Hwy1), past our driveway, up and along a ridgetop
returning to the ocean and Hwy. 1 in Gualala, CA. This
allows convenient access to Hwy. 1 in both directions.
Gualala, CA
is only a 15-20 minute drive away. Gualala
offers supermarkets, hardware stores, restaurants, medical facilities, shops, a gym,
realtors, galleries, and and Art Center as well as a Post Office.
Point Arena, CA is really a
small town with a Post Office, medical facilities, shops and restaurants. The Coast
Community Library branch of the Mendocino County Library System is
located in Point Arena. Because the Library System encompasses
Sonoma and Lake Counties as well as Mendocino County, patrons at
the Coast Community Library have quick access to many
volumes. A completely restored 1927 vintage theater, located in
downtown Point Arena, provides first run movies as well as vintage
classics and art movies. Regular live shows are presented by
both local and internationally renowned performers. Point Arena also offers an historic lighthouse.
Within about a 15-20 minute drive, are a number of public beaches
and other recreation areas. Between Gualala, on the south, and
Point Arena, on the north, are several California state beaches and
Mendocino County beaches and parks. Just beyond Gualala are a
large number of Sonoma County parks and beaches. North of Point
Arena, as well, are more California state parks and Bureau of Land
Management federal open lands.
About an hour north are Mendocino Village
and Fort Bragg, CA both of which offer a variety of shopping, entertainment and
recreational activities.
