Our House is an arc-shaped building with the long side facing South and
the short, inside of the arc facing North. The Kitchen is in the East and the Master Suite is in the West. Immediately
surrounding the house are gardens to provide color, fragrance and cut
flowers year-round. The gardens also provide food for a variety
of natural creatures, birds and insects.
A paved sidewalk leads from the twin columns on Front Entry porch, past flowering plum trees, rosemary, and pittosporum either to the Studio/Workshop Building or to the
driveway. Meandering between the Main House and the Studio/Shop Building, along the Gravel Garden Loop, is a perennial garden
that includes penstemon,
achillea, bearded iris, daylilies and Japanese anemone. On the
other side of the Loop is one of several rose gardens.
Proceeding around to the South side of the house, rosemary
and lavender bushes edge a Mediterranean garden. Through the
Mediterranean garden, a stone path leads to a small sitting area that
is surrounded by rose bushes, sage, heathers and heaths.
Ornamental grasses and decorative rocks join the perennials
planted here.
Santa Rosa Beauty plum trees edge a small lawn which is the perfect size for sitting in
the sun with a good friend. Beyond the lawn is a large perennial
flower/herb garden that borders the Patio and Deck and supplies cut
flowers for the house and herbs for culinary enterprises. Two
Meyer lemon trees provide lemons almost year-round.
