Building Chronology - Building Phase

Originally, 21 separate entries told the story of the construction of our Point Arena corporate headquarters.  It took almost 60 trips from La Honda to Point Arena to plan and build our home.  Each trip was about 4 hours and 150 miles EACH WAY.  We became regular guests at a local hotel and enjoyed a "corporate rate".  We also ate our way through the menus at a number of local restaurants.

Below is just a small part of our story.  To see the entire saga, please use this link.

  three kitty kompany day 0

Day 0. Each time Mom and Dad photograph our new home site, there will be a photo from about this angle.
earth mover

Here it is - the BIG earthmover. The soil here is very sandy so this is the machine that was used to dig the foundation footings.

  foundation footing trenches 2

There are trenches everywhere - outlining every wall in the house, garage and barn.

And then horizontal boards were nailed to the vertical ones to make the foundation footing form.

Trenches were also dug for Three Kitty Meters (electricity) and Liters (water).

Construction began with marking the walls and corners of all the buildings so the earth-moving machinery could dig trenches for the foundation footings. The footings were framed and concrete poured.

Also this month, the underground conduit for the electrical system and for the "water works", formally known as Three Kitty Meters and Liters was laid.

Day 189. We can see the entire house and the garage. The connecting structure is being built.

The front of the house looks like a group of boxes.

The crew is finishing the framing of the roof.
S297-027

The library ceiling is gorgeous.

The rooms are almost completely framed and now it "feels" like a house.

S295-036a

Once again, Mom and Dad watched the whales from the upstairs windows.

  S295-027

We've all been very impressed by how little waste there has been.
P029060075

And by the care taken to keep the lumber dry.

Each time Mom and Dad go, they never know what they'll see on the highway.

But they're always greeted by this sign (used as a landmark for deliveries).

July, 2003

  day 502

Day 502. Ho, hum. It is July and it is hot. Mom and Dad are gone again - for their 51st trip. They no longer have time for fun and there is no space in our current house amongst the sea of boxes. Ho, hum.

There aren't a lot of changes on the outside.

The weather vane now graces the top of the barn roof.
Mom and Dad have been to our new home 5 times in the past 6 weeks. In the next week, they will be there twice. The last time will be with a moving van full of our toys, our beds, our bowls and our food. We will follow a few days later when everything is ready for us. In the interim, we get to go to Summer Camp to play poker with Abner and Daisy. (We think Daisy cheats.)

The family room has a similar credenza separating it from the eating area in the solarium.
